We completed this interactive sculpture for the 2019 London Design Festival. The sculpture was produced from reclaimed scaffold boards and poles, meeting both the design criteria and structural requirements for an interactive, public art piece. A great deal of experience and thought was required to turn what are course everyday materials into a flowing ribbon of wood to provide seating and shelter within a visual art form. The sculpture was made using 1,152 reclaimed scaffold boards, all planed, sanded and cut to create huge curves and concentric circles. It was situated in Finsbury Avenue Square in the heart of London's Broadgate, a diverse hub connecting innovation and finance. It has since been replicated in China and Hong Kong using our design and methodology, and currently a reduced version is on display in Kew Gardens.
